"Determine for yourself as of now a way of life, a plan of conduct, that you will follow both when you are alone and when you find yourself with others." -Epictetus Miraculously, I have a life outside of academia, and one I enjoy spending with this pretty lady, here, my wife Malyse. Isn't she somethin'? Hands off, turkey! She is the sweetest and the funnest person ever, and I am lucky to have met and be generally tolerated by such an awesome female. Yay me! I'm now all the luckier that we have our daughter, Alice Dawn Chabot-Hanowell, to test parental investment theory on. Feel free to visit an ultra-sappy page dedicated to her! I do a lot of interesting things. Well, at least I think so. For instance, I am an avid song-writer and singer and have written lyrics and melodies ever since I was twelve years old. I now put these skills to good use crooning to the lovely, afore-mentioned Malyse. I have also completed four short science fiction stories (although two of these are currently under heavy revision and one was unfortunately lost in the Great Laptop Crash of 2006). I also once wrote and hand-crafted an original children's story called "Zanzibar Zooks of Limbfinity" for the son of a friend (well, I suppose that makes him my friend, too). Someday, I plan on writing the long-awaited sequel and perhaps even seeking publication. And yes, that's me uppercutting a stuffed monkey down and to the right. The same monkey frolicking down the road with Malyse and me. Don't worry, we made amends after our altercation. Once upon a time, I was also involved in the performing arts, including theatre and dance. This definitely helps when I have to present my research before an audience...well, maybe not the dancing part. Hrm...maybe I should do an interpretive dance at the AAAs this year. Finally, I like staying in shape. Especially when I am showing up the Marines at one of their propaganda...I mean recruitment...stands, as on the left. If you do, too, I recommend you visit this guy's website, because his training philosophy and protocol will blow your freaking mind. By the way, my 2009 New Year's Resolution is to train to run a marathon by sometime in 2010. There, now I can't shirk from it because you've taken the time to read this nauseatingly cute little page. |
